Musei Civici Gian Giacomo Galletti

Palazzo San Silva

Palazzo Silva is one of the jewels preserved in the historic center of Domodossola, one of the most beautiful Renaissance noble buildings in the subalpine region, deserving its inclusion in the list of National Monuments. Constructed in two phases, between the 14th and 17th centuries, the palace served as the noble residence of the Della Silva family until the late 18th century. After the death of the last descendant, the building underwent a gradual decline. In 1882, it was acquired by the Galletti Foundation and underwent restoration under the direction of the painter Vittorio Avondo between 1884 and 1889. It was then used to house the historical and artistic collections owned by the Foundation, giving birth to the Palazzo Silva Museum. Since its establishment, the museum has been rearranged and modified several times until its final arrangement, which took place between 1940 and 1950, recreating the ambiance of a noble Ossolan house from the 17th century.
